It is becoming a regular thing now to see cheap Avios for sale via European “membership” sites, and this time it’s French Vente-Privee’s turn!

What’s the deal?

The following packs are available:

4,000 Avios for €59 [€0.0148 per Avios]
9,000 Avios for €109 [€0.0121 per Avios]
20,000 Avios for €229 [€0.0115 per Avios]
35,000 Avios for €399 [€0.0114 per Avios]

Unfortunately the 2,000 Avios pack for €21 has already sold out.

Anything I need to know?

  • You will need to have an account registered on the French version of the site, with a French post code. You can just pick any random one…
  • Use Google Chrome to translate if your French is a bit rusty…
  • You can only buy a maximum of 100,000 Avios per account.
  • You will be charged in Euros – so make sure you use a 0% FX card to avoid nasty charges.
  • You need to redeem your voucher between 16th September and 18th October inclusive. Avios will be deposited in your BA Executive Club within 5 days of redemption.

Is it a good deal?

At essentially 1p/Avios, it should be difficult for you NOT to get a decent amount of value out of your Avios.

However, remember the “Bank of IAG” can devalue your Avios at any time – so I wouldn’t speculatively buy at this price. If you have a specific use in mind that you know will get you good value for your Avios, or you need to top up for an aspirational redemption – this is a good way of going about it.

Already have BA offer of 12500 bonus points on BAPP for buying avios, works out roughly 1.1p per Avios.

    Is it a good deal?

  2. Sharat says

Avios are most useful to redeem short haul BA reward flights. If you are buying them @ 1p for any other purpose it is unlikely that you will be able to use them for a value over 1p.
Its best to accumulate them via flights or cards- then they prove more useful.

BA have a few months ago already confirmed that avios points will be devalued soon. If you jump in, redeem them as quickly as you can.

  4. Sharat says

Avios as a point currency of BA is going to be more based on revenue or miles flown – so we shouldn’t be in a hurry to speculate devaluation- let’s watch the space.
