We have long talked about the Amex Gold as being the best credit card for anyone looking to make the most of their spending.

The reasons are plentiful, but the main ones are:

  • It remains free for the first year, and you can cancel without quibble whenever you like.
  • If you spend £3,000 on it in your first 3 months, you will get 22,000 Amex Membership Rewards Points. These convert to 22,000 airline miles in a number of schemes, including Avios.
  • You get two free airport lounge visits each year with the card.
  • In addition, you can now get £120 of free Deliveroo credit per year too!

Plus, for this July only, they have cranked up the bonus points available to cardholders. The great news is it applies to both new and existing cardholders.

The added bonus

In addition to the above benefits and bonus points, if you add a supplementary card holder to the account, for free, you’ll get a bonus 3,000 Membership Rewards points.

Plus, if £500 is spent on that card within 3 months, you’ll get another bonus 3,000 points.

Who is this bonus available to?

Note that the 6,000 point bonus is available to both new and existing card holders. If you have a card, you just need to add an additional card holder and you’ll get the points. Note that if you already have an additional card holder, you won’t get the bonus for adding another one.

    A question for someone.
I looked in to this a bit more and I found that the additional card holder has to set up their own on line account for the additional card. Does this cause any issues if the additional card holder has an Amex account /card in their own name.? I get that using the app already installed on my phone couldn’t be used (or can it?), but are their any other difficulties?

It’s easy to add a supplementary card to an existing Amex online account. You can track your spending on the supp card and add offers just as if it was your own. The only difference is that you won’t see the spending of the main card holder.
This works on the app too. But only if you add the supp card to your existing online account. If you set up a new account the app won’t work.
Once you’ve added the card, just click on Home and then select the card you want to use or browse it’s offers. It’s a very good app.
