Starwood hotels are currently offering 5,000 bonus SPG Starpoints to anyone who registers for the “5000 reasons” offer and then stays 15 nights (yep, 15 nights) at a participating Starwood hotel brand (St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Le Méridien, Westin, Sheraton, Tribute Portfolio, Design Hotels, Aloft, ElementSM and Four Points) between now and 18 December.

To benefit, you will however need to book and pay with an American Express card (but come on, we’ve all got one of those now, haven’t we? Haven’t we?).

Note that bookings made prior to the promotion period are eligible for the bonus, the key point is that the stay itself needs to be made before 18 December.

I struggled slightly with whether I should even bother to flag this offer, as the stay requirements to earn the bonus are almost comically heavy. However, there may be a business traveller out there who is about to be dispatched to a couple of weeks of hotel-based work or (better still) someone who has an extended holiday at a Starwood property, so hopefully it may benefit someone.

I do genuinely love SPG and SPG Starpoints too, so it seems a shame to overlook any bonus opportunity in the scheme, however onerous the qualification requirements.

That said, this is certainly not one that means you should be scrabbling around to find cheap Starwood hotels for mattress runs to.

Given that I value SPG Starpoints at a minimum of 1p, this is at least £50 back on your – ahem – 15 nights, so it is a rebate worth registering for if you will qualify.
