IHG Rewards Club is offering a bonus of up to 100% when purchasing IHG Points by 22nd August 2018.

Bonuses seem to vary between 50%-100% and you need to buy at least 5,000 points to get your bonus. In order to receive the cheapest price per Point you must buy at least 26,000 (pre bonus) Points though, because of the way IHG prices them.

Good deal?

As usual – it depends!

If targeted for a 100% bonus and purchasing 26,000+ (pre bonus) Points, you would be paying 0.5 cents per Point, which works out at about 0.38p.

The new PointBreaks list is out on Monday, with some hotels on offer for just 5,000 Points per night. Using the numbers above, 5,000 Points would cost £19.00 – which is clearly a massive bargain if there’s a hotel on the list that suits your plans.

At the other end of the spectrum, IHG’s top tier hotels require 70,000 Points per night, so would cost about £266. That’s obviously very expensive, but could still be a good saving compared to cash rates at peak times (eg. New Year’s Eve) in cities like London or New York.

I don’t think I’d be tempted at all by anything less than 100%, but as always, run the numbers yourself to see if you can save some money on your travel plans.
