Virgin Atlantic Targets British Airways Passengers with Ruthless Offer

It’s no secret to most of the country that British Airways hasn’t had the best PR in recent months. Virgin Atlantic appear to be making the most of this by launching a ruthless offer today.

Virgin wants anyone who has booked a flight directly with British Airways to get a quote from Virgin and cancel their existing booking. As long as the booking was made within 24 hours, you qualify for a “No Questions Asked” refund from BA as it’s within the “cooling off period”. Virgin aim to match the “route and dates” of the original booking and then give you £50 off the “quoted fare”. The offer started today and is running until June 15th 23.59.

Like all good marketing campaigns of the modern era, they’ve come up with a catchy hashtag: #VAnotBA.

Check out the special VA page for the offer here.

How to take advantage

Firstly, email your booking confirmation from BA to [email protected]

Secondly, call Virgin on 0344 209 4715 for the new booking. You will be quoted flights for either Virgin Atlantic or Delta Airlines and they must be the same date, origin and destination and cabin as the BA flight.

Virgin and Delta departure airports are LGW, LHR, MAN, GLA or BFS only.

Don’t Forget

Ensure you have enough time to call up VA and then cancel your BA booking. I advise you to not cancel your BA booking until you’ve had your offer from Virgin.

What’s important to note here is that Virgin are not offering a price match guarantee here. They will match the flight’s date, origin and destinations but the £50 discount is on their quote. Make sure you run your own online search first to see what prices you can find for the Virgin or Delta Flight.

This is only for BA flights – flights with other airlines will not qualify.

Bottom Line

This is certainly some heavy PR shots being fired by Virgin Atlantic in BA’s direction.

From a practical perspective, it may not be that useful to many of us, considering the short time frame and limited destinations served by VA. However, if you booked a flight within the last 24 hours this is certainly worth exploring to see if it works for you. Some people thinking of booking a flight soon may want to jump on this today or tomorrow – book your BA flight and then give VA an email and a call.
