Avios collectors hopefully know about Iberia Plus and how to Combine Your Avios. Rewards on Iberia, booked with Iberia Plus, cost fewer Avios and have lower surcharges. If you want to visit a destination served by Iberia, then you can make your Avios stretch much further.
Of course, Iberia Plus is no hidden secret any more, and it can be close to impossible to find reward space to/from North America thanks to our friends over the pond with their credit card sign-up bonuses. But a much less well-known feature is that Iberia Plus frequently offers discounted rewards to select destinations for a limited time.
As a Valentine’s Day offer, Iberia Plus members can receive a 25% discount – in all classes including Business – on rewards booked between now and 14 February, 2017. The following destinations are on offer (all to/from Madrid) for certain dates:
- London (as well as Vienna, Moscow and Zurich) between 8 February and 14 June, 2017
- Bogota, Medellin, Johannesburg, Miami, New York, Boston, Chicago, Panama, Shanghai, Mexico City and Lima between 8 February and 14 June, 2017, with the exception of the month of April
- Havana, Santiago (Chile) and Buenos Aires between 1 May and 14 June, 2017
As a further restriction, the discount only applies to off-peak travel dates. Iberia Plus has quite a few peak date periods in April/May due to Spanish bank holidays.
Hopefully this restriction doesn’t bother you. With Iberia’s peak dates covering Spanish holidays rather than British ones, it should be easier to travel on off-peak dates anyhow to save Avios. A return flight in Business Class from Madrid to Buenos Aires, Santiago or Shanghai is only going to cost 76,500 Avios plus £200 at most!
You can read about the promotion here.
The fact that London is included is a great bonus for Londoners, as you should be able to combine your positioning flight to Madrid into a single ticket. For the rest of the country, make sure to re-read my post on positioning flights. But get those Avios moved into your Iberia Plus account if you fancy a spring trip to the United States, Central America or China!

If I am reading right NYC Ais is included so would that not be 51,000 return in biz? That’s incredible value!!

Correct – Chicago (which I flew to recently with Iberia – good flight) is an even bigger steal.

I did spy a couple of dates in J for New York in March. Couldn’t really find much Chicago. (not that I was exhaustively looking for those two cities – I think I want somewhere warmer)
But obviously get whatever you can booked. I imagine everything to/from the U.S. will dry up if any of the big American blogs pick up this promo…

I see that the Points Guy has also picked this up. But why does nobody make even a cursory check to see if there’s a promotion, rather than just call it a glitch? On 15 February I suspect there will be a lot of disappointed people…
