Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is running a fantastic promotion for members of their ‘EuroBonus’ loyalty programme, offering up to 70% off award flights to a range of destinations.

This means that you can book Return flights from the UK to Chicago, Washington DC, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing for just 18,000 EuroBonus Points in Economy.

You can pay 6,000 more Points for ‘SAS Plus’, which includes additional luggage allowance, Fast Track, Lounge access, a wider seat with more legroom in a separate cabin and complimentary booze on board. I’d say for just 3,000 Points extra each way that’s definitely worth it.

You need to book by 14th September and travel between 1st October-28th February.

There are some decent short haul redemption discounts too, as well as some less generous long-haul options:

Great, But I don’t have any EuroBonus Points…

Good news!

You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards Points to SAS EuroBonus at a 1:1 ratio.

If you don’t have any Amex MR Points, or don’t fancy risking the transfer time, you can buy EuroBonus Points for 20 Euros per 1,000, so 18,000 would set you back a little over £300.00, which could still be a great deal.

To purchase Points you need to have at least some sort of activity showing on your EuroBonus account, but you can pick up a quick 700 Points immediately after signing up just for watching a few videos.

Availability looked excellent on the routes I checked.

As you can see below, the main chart shows the normal award prices of 30,000/40,000 each way,  but don’t panic – the total gets reduced to 18,000 automatically in the box on the right hand side.

EuroBonus don’t charge ‘surcharges’ so you only have to pay the taxes and airport fees, which is great!

How good a deal is this?

Very good!

It’s better than the (pretty good) current Virgin Atlantic award sale, and British Airways charge up to 60,000 Avios + £313.00 for some of those routes!

Flying with SAS you will have to connect of course, but your connecting flight is included and SAS fly to Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh as well as London – so if you live outside of the South East it isn’t really any less convenient.
