American Express Is Experimenting With Personalised Sign-Up Bonus Offers – What’s Yours?

Some links to products and partners on this website will earn an affiliate commission.

For many years now, American Express has offered temporary boosted sign-up bonuses on many of its cards. In more recent times, it has also developed a range of different referral offers, where the amount of bonus points available can fluctuate quite significantly over time (for both the referrer and the person referred).

A few days ago though, I came across a new type of targeting that I hadn’t noticed before…

American Express Personalised Sign-Up Bonus Offers

As I was checking the current sign up offers, I saw the one below pop up on the Amex Gold page:

Note that I wasn’t signed into my Amex account at the time – the extra 10,000 bonus points seems to be something to do with cookies, but how  it works and how widely targeted it is, is unclear.

At the time of writing, I can still see the offer when I click through from Google Chrome to this sign up page here. However, if I paste that link into a different browser, I just get the current standard sign up bonus page below:

I have copied the information provided on the enhanced offer below for you to take a look at:

“Earn 30,000 + an extra 10,000 Membership Rewards® points when you spend £3,000 in your first three months of Cardmembership. Offer ends 6 July 2022. Terms Apply. 18+ subject to status.

This offer is unique to you, and is based on your acceptance of cookies. Therefore, please note that this extra offer is correct at the time of viewing, but may change or become unavailable if you return to this page at a later date or use a different device. Whilst your personalised offer may disappear if you don’t apply now, taking credit should be considered carefully. Please do not rush your decision.”

Bottom line

This is an interesting move by Amex – and certainly something I’ll be keeping a close eye on in future. I’ve no idea how widely targeted it is, but a 40,000 point sign up bonus on a card that is free for the first year, is very generous indeed.

If you can’t find a way to get targeted for the 40,000 bonus points, the next best option would be to use a referral link like this one here, which can currently get you 32,000 bonus points after you hit the minimum spend requirements.

Have you been targeted for the 40,000 bonus points offer, or perhaps seen something even better?
