Marriott Bonvoy has released details of its first promotion of 2022.  “Every Night Counts Even More” will run from 8 February – 4 May, 2022.

The promotion has two elements (one better than the other). Bonvoy members can earn:

  • 1,000 bonus points per night
  • 1 additional elite night credit

You can only earn these bonuses on paid stays, however. Award redemption nights (Cash + Points, free night award certificates or a points redemption) are not eligible for the promotion. Homes & Villas by Marriott International stays, Marriott Executive Apartments stays, and Marriott Vacation Club owner-occupied weeks do NOT qualify either.

You can only earn bonus points / elite status credit for ONE room per night.

Registration is required before your first stay. Click here to be taken to the promotion landing page.

Where is the value?

1,000 bonus points is worth roughly £5. This might be a reasonable return for cheap stays. But it isn’t particularly exciting, particularly with dynamic award pricing coming in March 2022 – i.e. a major devaluation.

But the more compelling element of the promotion will be the extra elite night credits. As a reminder, you need the following number of nights to reach / renew elite status:

  • 50 nights for Platinum
  • 75 nights for Titanium
  • 100 nights for Ambassador (+ $20,000 in pre-tax spend)

As a result, you can potentially earn/renew Platinum status by staying 25 paid nights during the period of this promotion. Of course, you might also have a 15 night head start if you hold a Marriott co-branded credit card.

Bottom line

It is worth remembering that Marriott offered a similar promotion in 2021. But in the autumn, Marriott just extended the status of everybody… So any early-2021 mattress runs ended up being a complete waste of money.

In 2020 and 2021, Marriott also handed out complimentary elite night credits. We haven’t seen anything on that front. Does this “double elite night” promotion mean that we won’t receive 25/37/50 free nights in 2022? I would assume so… I would also assume that Marriott wants to stop the blanket extensions of elite status, and focus on those members actually travelling. But another COVID variant could quickly put an end to those plans.

In any event, this promotion is a good way to build up elite night credits for those interested in renewing their elite status with Marriott Bonvoy…
