Marriott Bonvoy is offering an interesting sign-up bonus for members who are referred by an existing member.

The new member can receive 2,000 bonus points per stay in the first year, up to a maximum of 10,000 bonus points.

The existing member (doing the referring) can also receive 2,000 bonus points for each stay made by the new member, up to that same 10,000 point maximum.  You can refer up to five new members.

However, a slightly more common occurrence is that a family member or friend asks you for advice about an upcoming hotel stay. In that case you could send the referral yourself. With both you and the new member earning 2,000 points per stay, it is definitely worth the effort, since 2,000 points is worth roughly £10-12.

However that does make it not quite lucrative enough to go around opening duplicate Marriott Bonvoy accounts and undertaking mattress runs…  😉
