The Mysterious Case of the Disappearing £100 Amex Platinum Credit…

I have written before about why right now is (somewhat counter-intuitively) a great time to get an Amex Platinum Card – and it seems there might now be an additional reason to consider applying.

This morning, the always excellent Rob over at HeadForPoints, flagged a new statement credit offer for all personal Platinum cardholders, providing up to £100 back on purchases with any of the following:

  • Marks & Spencer
  • Waitrose & Partners
  • Deliveroo
  • Harvey Nichols
  • Apple (online only)

I quickly logged into my account to check the offer had been loaded and was pleased to see it had been. Unfortunately, I forgot to click “save offer” at the time.

When I logged in again later to actually make use of the offer, it was no longer there.

The good news is that Amex agents are aware of the situation and have clarified that:

“This offer is just launched today and you will soon get an email for this and offer will reflect in your account soon”

I believe there was an issue this morning with the offer showing on supplementary cards, when Amex only intended the offer to be available on main cardholder accounts.

Bottom line

Whether this £100 offer will be made available to people who apply today is impossible to say for certain, but I think there is a good chance it will be.

Even if that doesn’t happen, you can still make £100s and get effectively free elite status with a range of hotel loyalty programmes by applying for an Amex Platinum at the moment.
