From London, you can currently book discounted British Airways First Class flights to North America. Obviously, First Class is always going to be expensive, but for direct flights the prices are very good.

These fares are valid for trips in July and August. Bookings must be made by February 3, 2020.

How many Avios/miles can I earn?

These British Airways First Class fares book into fare class A, so if you credited the flights to BA Executive Club, you would get 420 Tier Points for a return flight from London to the USA or Canada. You would also receive 250% of the flown miles as Avios. For connecting flights in the USA, you would receive an additional 60 Tier Points per segment.

You might also want to consider crediting the flights to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan instead. You would receive 450% of the miles flown, which is very impressive when you consider how valuable Alaska Miles are.

Correction, in the US you would receive 40TPs or 140TPs (depending on distance) for connecting segments in 2-class planes, and 210TPs in first on a transcontinental on a 3-class aircraft (basically JFK to LAX or SFO out with AA). The days of 60/210TPs for domestic first are long gone sadly…

In general you are correct, especially for purely domestic AA flights.

However, when you are booking an international First Class flight, the connecting flights can book into a fare class that also earns you First Class Tier Points. (even though you’re in AA’s poor First i.e. barely Business…) It’s something to take a close look at when booking.
