Groupon has resurrected its now seemingly regular offer of discounted Avios points. The current deal allows you to buy Avios points for as little as (at the time of writing) 0.81p per Avios (i.e. substantially under a penny each).

To benefit from this offer, you will need an (Avios) account with Iberia Plus, which you can open for free, here.

As a result of the offer, Avios points are on sale with Groupon at the following rates:

• 2,000 Avios for €19 (£16.26, so 0.81p per Avios)
• 4,000 Avios for €49 (£41.94, so 1.05p per Avios)
• 8,000 Avios for €99 (£84.74, so 1.06p per Avios)
• 12,000 Avios for €149 (£127.54, so 1.06p per Avios)
• 20.000 Avios for €259 (£221.70, so 1.11 per Avios)

At these prices, I would initially only really contemplate buying the 2,000 chunk – although what you value an Avios point at may vary substantially from my valuation!

However I’ve had to edit this, as Headforpoints has pointed out that if you open a new groupon.es account, discount code QUITATE10 will save you €10 on spends of €25+. That also makes the 4,000 Avios package attractive, too – at about 0.83p per Avios. 

Note that there is a limit of 5 purchases or 100,000 Avios per Iberia Plus user, save that you can also only buy one set of 2,000 Avios per person.

This offer previously ran in April, when the much stronger pound made this a considerably better deal for people buying in Sterling. Brexit eh?

Anything else?

Importantly, if you do not want to use your Avios points with Iberia, but rather switch them across to your avios.com or BA Executive Club account, you can do this via the “Combine My Avios” option. However, your Iberia Plus account will need to be at least 90 days old, so bear this in mind if you are opening a new one.
