Hilton HHonors has announced the latest changes to its award categories, and it’s basically good news with very few changes. You can check out the full list of Hilton HHonors Award Category Changes here.
As you can see, there are 11 increases and no decreases this time, which really isn’t too bad at all.
The only change of note from a UK (or indeed European) perspective is the Hampton by Hilton Newport East is changing from a Category 1 to a Category 2 – which doubles the number of Points required from 5,000 to 10,000 per night.
That’s a bit of a blow for anyone highly dedicated to earning Hilton status through award stays (or anyone who actually needs to stay outside Newport of course!), given that there aren’t any Category 1 hotels left in the UK now.
The changes come into effect on 11th January 2017, but you can book for any future dates at the current rates until then (and Points bookings are almost always refundable), so it might be worth making some speculative bookings if you think there is any chance you might need to stay at any of the hotels changing Category.
Bottom line
Nobody wants to see hotels charging more Points per night, but 11 hotels globally over an entire quarter is hard to quibble with. It is a shame that there aren’t any decreases this time though to offset the rises, and that there isn’t a Category 1 hotel left in the UK now.

i have a question on the carry-over nights from Hilton and like to hear your opinion here as i am a bit lost with Hiltons responses.
I carried over 18 nights to 2019
so I start with 18 and get my Diamond status by staying 42 nights at 60 I become diamond for 2020
I keep staying in the hotel this year up 70 nights (total 130) more , so I carry over 60 nights as 10 I will loose because of max carry over limit of 60 .
I start the new year 2020 with my carry over 60 nights and immediately become diamond for 2021, everything else that I stay on top of these 60 will carryover until 2021.
The way it is explained below, the carryover nights are completely useless in Hiltons reply,
I have reviewed your account for the nights completed in 2018 and 2019. For the year 2018 you had 78 nights in your account and hence 18 carried over to the year 2019. The sum of nights completed in 2019 is 130 which includes the 18 roll over nights. Hence the actual number of nights for the year are 130-18 = 112. Since you are a Diamond member with us, you have carried over all the nights above 60 completed in the year, i.e. 112-60 = 52.
Please note that carry over nights for a year is valid for Tier retention for the following year only. ???Hence the carry over nights from 2018 were used to your Diamond Tier qualification in 2019. The 52 nights which you have carried over in this year, will be taken into consideration for your Diamond Tier qualification in 2020 however will not be carried over in 2021.
The Hilton explanation sounds right to me.
Rollover nights are only valuable at getting you to a new level of status quicker, or to lock in your requalification earlier. They are completely removed when calculating any rollover nights for the next year.
