Last year IHG signed a deal to buy a controlling stake in the luxury hotel brand Regent. It’s taken a while to get everything sorted, but according to an email from IHG yesterday, as of 1st February 2019 it should be possible to both earn and redeem IHG Rewards Club Points at Regent hotels:

“It is our pleasure to introduce you to Regent® Hotels & Resorts – your newest opportunity to earn and redeem with IHG® Rewards Club beginning February 1. At Regent, you’ll be welcomed by enchanting views that stretch as far as your imagination. Intimate spaces designed for total relaxation. And sensational experiences you’ll remember for a lifetime.

Stay in the Regent Beijing, an imperial sanctuary set against the backdrop of the Forbidden City, or escape to an urban oasis in the illustrious Regent Singapore. With locations suited for every desire, Regent is your gateway to stays both exhilarating and serene.

Indulge yourself while you earn and redeem at this unparalleled collection of hotels and resorts. We look forward to bringing you into a new era of luxury.”

Right now there are only 6 Regent hotels, in Beijing, Berlin, Chongqing, Porto Montenegro, Singapore, and Taipei. There are concrete plans for one in Kuala Lumpur and for the Intercontinental Hong Kong to be converted in 2021, with aspirations for there to be ~40 properties under the flag eventually.

If you’re wondering what to expect from the new brand,

“Regent’s new positioning has been created to deliver on a bold ambition – to become world-renowned for new luxury and celebrated for bold new ideas. The relaunched brand comes complete with new brand hallmarks and design philosophy, a specially created service style, and a striking visual identity…

Each Regent hotel will alleviate the demands and pressure of daily life to remove tension and create a stay that is effortlessly bespoke. To achieve this sublime haven, there are three promises at the heart of everything the Regent brand delivers:

  • Majestically intimate – experiences designed for the individual where they can discover crafted personal havens, and escape and indulge

  • On their terms – guests to stay on their terms using a combination of attentive service and frictionless technology to create a stay that feels effortless

  • Inspiring discoveries – enabling guests to discover and experience the best of local culture, new tastes, delights and ideas “

Yeah, don’t worry – I’ve no idea what most of that means either (and I doubt even the team that wrote it do). There are some very nice shiny pictures and videos on the IHG website here though – enjoy!

Bottom line

It’s always good to have more luxury options to spend hotel points at, so it’s definitely a positive to see Regent being integrated fully into IHG Rewards Club.

That said, I’m not at all sure how Regent is really going to differentiate itself from IHG’s main luxury brand, Intercontinental – time will tell, I suppose.

Have you stayed at a Regent hotel? – any good?
