I received an interesting email yesterday highlighting what is effectively a new Uber rewards scheme, in partnership Barclaycard.

The premise is extremely simple: “Every 11th ride using Barclaycard as your payment option is free up to £15 until the end of 2017. Just think of it as a loyalty reward you’ll never forget to use”.

The offer isn’t targeted and you don’t need to opt in to activate it or anything – simply add your Barclaycard as the payment option you want to use from now on.

Every 10th ride you complete and pay for while the offer is valid will entitle you to a free ride up to a maximum value of £15, as long as your eligible card is set as your default payment method for all 11 rides. The credit will apply automatically and you can see in the Uber app how many rides you’ve accumulated, and when you’ve qualified for a free ride.

Rides in any location where Uber operates (inside or outside the UK) count towards your 10, and they can be of any value, as long as there’s a charge to your eligible card for each of the 10 rides.

Rides paid for using PayPal, Apple Pay and Android Pay (even if you’ve loaded a Barclaycard) won’t count towards your 10 accumulated rides.

The offer is valid until 31 December 2017. There are no restrictions on the number of free rides you can earn.

Bottom line

If you take quite a lot of relatively short/cheap Uber rides like me, this could be a lucrative offer. Say that your average spend is £5, you would be getting (up to) £15 back for every £50 you spend – a 30% rebate!

The fact it is scheduled to run until the end of the year is good too, so even if you don’t use Uber that frequently, you can probably still benefit.

Every time you pay for 10 rides through the Uber app using an eligible Barclaycard every 11th ride is free up to £15. Barclaycard must be set as the payment method in the Uber app for all rides. There must be a charge to the card for the ten rides prior to the promotional ride. Any excess amount will be charged to your eligible card. Any unused value does not roll over. Valid 07/03/2017 – 31/12/2017.
