For those of you with a slight interest in the history of frequent flyer programmes, Iberia Plus is turning 25 years old this year. Happy Silver Jubilee?!? I believe that Iberia Plus is actually the oldest European frequent flyer programme, so that is potentially notable for the anoraks amongst us…
For the rest, the more important news is that Iberia Plus is running a 25%-off promotion to celebrate! All Iberia routes can be booked using your Avios for 25% fewer Avios than normal.
You must book your rewards through Iberia Plus before 11 April, 2017.
The reward flights must take place between now and 15 June, 2017 and between 1 October and 15 December, 2017. I believe that you are also additionally restricted to off-peak dates during the aforementioned periods. (the Spanish version is much clearer than the English)
Unfortunately that rules out teachers and those-who-must-holiday-in-summer. For the rest of us, it’s time to figure out where to fly on Iberia! Iberia’s peak and off-peak calendar can be found in this post.
As a reminder, the Iberia Plus reward chart looks like this:
Although substantially less exciting, you can also earn a 25% bonus when crediting your Iberia flights to an Iberia Plus account. Again, this bonus will only be earned for flights purchased between now and 11 April, 2017 and flown between now and 15 June as well as between 1 October and 15 December, 2017.
If you aren’t status-conscious, it makes sense to credit any Iberia flights to Iberia Plus if you are planning to book imminently and fly during the appropriate bonus period. You can always Combine Your Avios later.
Imagine my surprise as I stumbled across this promotion when messing about on the Iberia website overnight. Make sure to book something before the news goes viral – you could fly in Business Class between Madrid and New York / Chicago return for a mere 51,000 Avios!

Is there a list of which destinations fall into which catagory ?
Joe Deeney says
Great question! – I’m working on a post now.

I did a pretty little chart a couple of years ago for my Spanish language blog. It’s missing a new route or two, but basically the destinations are still in the same place.

It’s not complicated really. New York, Boston, San Juan and Chicago are “cheap” Band 5 routes. Tokyo, Shanghai, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Montevideo are the long distance routes. Pretty much everywhere else is Band 6…

Saves me a job! – great work.

Reminds me to update my Spanish language blog… I get so many comments “uh, how many Avios to fly from South America to Madrid”. Err… read the blog post… I guess I should give it another crack to try and make it easier to understand.
James says
is the 25% off only available on actual Iberia metal ???
As in is it NOT available when doing something like Madrid to Cairo (which would have to be MAD-LHR-CAI/CAI-LHR-MAD whereby the LHR-Cairo legs are on BA metal) ?
Craig Sowerby says
Iberia metal only. Off-peak dates only.
