To celebrate it’s 70th birthday, Heathrow Airport is running a promo in which everyone who enters will win a prize of some sort, simply by submitting a brief (or not-so-brief) Heathrow-related story. The key point is, as Heathrow say, “the better your story, the more spectacular the gift you’ll get to unwrap“.
Now I have to say my story was pretty uninspiring, but consider it a service to the community to test how this promotion worked. Obviously it can take as long as you want it to, depending on how seriously you want to gun for the bigger prizes. I raced through and completed it in about 2 minutes.
Interestingly, they ask for your Heathrow Rewards number at the end, so I’d suggest that there may be a few handfuls of Heathrow Rewards points being dished out (based on the quality of my story, I’m expecting to get about three).
What prizes are included?
Thousands, apparently. Including:
- Qantas flights to Sydney
- Food at Heathrow
- Heathrow Rewards points
- Sunglasses
- Gift vouchers for Heathrow shops
- Heathrow Express Business First return ticket
- A ride with the driver on the Heathrow Express
- Various cosmetics
So, take your time or don’t, as the case may be. I do suggest you enter though, as I reckon the lower end prizes will probably be worth the 2 minutes it takes to add a brief story (although I may stand corrected…)
In terms of the timescales, Heathrow confirms as follows:
- over the next two weeks, we’ll read all the stories and select a great present for you.
- Then ta-dah, two or three weeks after sharing your story, you’ll find out which gift you’ll be unwrapping!
Full terms and conditions are available here.

I suspect the majority of prizes will be Heathrow points, because they’re surely not going to post all this stuff out to 1000s of entrants for free. Not even the passport holders/notebooks.
Tom Sumner says
Agreed. I am holding out for 100 points for my rubbish story.

I emailed Heathrow Rewards customer services to find out what was happening with this promo and they’ve just got back to me.
“We would like to inform you that the competition is divided into six fortnightly promotion periods and every one of them will be concluded with a prize draw. ”
First period was:
Promotion Period 1
Opening date and time: 09.00 on 31st May 2016
Closing date and time: 23.59 on 13th June 2016
Judging date: 14th June 2016
I haven’t received notification of any prize. Anyone know what’s going on?

Heathrow Stories update. Further to my comment above, I’ve just had an email telling me I’ve won a ‘HEATHROW 70TH BIRTHDAY NOTEBOOK’ to follow in the post shortly!
Ian Lees says
So have I ! At least it seems genuine, I never win anything normally.
Andrew H says
Every entrant was guaranteed a prize. Though I have yet to receive my notebook!
Tom Sumner says
This did make me smile. Indeed so much so you have won a free InsideFlyer key ring! Send your address to [email protected] and I’ll get one in the post to you 🙂
Andrew H says
Quite by coincidence, the notebook has arrived in the post this morning. All wrapped in special ‘Heathrow 70’ tissue paper. No expense spared.

Here’s a pic (pen shows size). Bigger than I thought

Someone I know has just heard she’s won a flight to Sydney for her and her son with a five day stay in the city. She’s over the moon!
Andrew H says
That must have been a heck of a story for the judges to give her a holiday to Sydney!

“YOU’VE WON A HEATHROW 70TH BIRTHDAY NOTEBOOK”
I spent quite a lot of time on my story and it was quite a heartwarming one, so a little disappointed but ho hum.
Mark Blackburn says
I did actually win a flight to Sydney for two. For at least 24 hours I thought I’d been scammed, but no – flights confirmed last week!
Joe Deeney says
Congrats Mark!!! -(I never got round to entering I don’t think – dammit!).
Andrew H says
Congrats!!!
Can I ask what your competition entry was, Mark? The judges must have been impressed if it won you flights to Sydney for two!
Tom Sumner says
Excellent work Mark!
