The lifting of sanctions on Iran has led to a flurry of activity in various commercial sectors. Hardly surprisingly, one of these is aviation, with BA the latest to throw its hat into the ring.
Following on from Iran Air’s mass purchase of Airbus aircraft, BA has just announced that, starting 14 July 2016, it will offer six flights a week from Heathrow to the Tehran before moving to daily flights in the winter of 2016.
The service, departing of course from Heathrow Terminal 5, will be operated by Boeing 777.
So, while likely to be more of a niche business destination than a leading holiday one (although Iran is, of course, an amazing destination) this is another Avios redemption option from the UK. It joins a variety of new routes that BA has recently announced, including San Jose, Costa Rica and Lima, Peru.
In the interests of responsible journalism, we should note that there is an FCO travel warning in place for Iran. While the “advice against travel” warning does not extend to Tehran, we strongly recommend that you read the FCO foreign travel advice in full before you visit.
But, potentially, what a great way to use your Avios!
