My reluctance to buy miles and points even at heavily discounted/bonused rates often makes me wonder who ever buys them at the standard rate? I suppose a lot of business must be from people who need a few to top up an account to make a redemption (which is fair enough), but the idea of just going to Hilton, Avios or whatever and buying at their shocking standard prices brings me out in a cold sweat.
I've seen the standard prices that BA/Avios.com charge for buying them and I wonder why anyone would bother unless they were on the verge of a redemption. Even these current sales don't tempt me. The Hilton points sales are worth it because you can buy a very small number of points for a few quid just to keep your account active,
