Does anyone have experience with using US sites like Hotwire and Priceline to book chain hotels at discounted prices? The hotels are not named until you book. I've got a couple of weeks in the US this summer staying in some pricey cities - NYC, Miami, Key West - so looking for a cut price way to stay for the least amount of pounds!
I looked at them quite closely a few years ago and with a little bit of spadework you could normally find out what the hotels were. I don't remember being hugely impressed by the deals in the end though, when you take into account the Points promotions etc with the chains. I know that 'way back in the day' there were some truly extraordinary deals available though, so it'd be interesting to hear what the situation is now.
Secret Escapes quite often has US hotels featured, particularly NYC, and some of those can work out quite well if you're a bit canny with the refer a friend credits they offer.
I used priceline Last week in vegas a got the Hilton tropical at the end of the strip die about 20 Dollars LEDs.
Just forgot to say that i tried hotwire, too. Last Time in Vegas. Got the venetian for a very good Price.
Nice - I like the Venetian but used IHG Points. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay through hotwire?
Hi JoeD, I think it was about 105 Euros per night for a suit with Strip View. Got it last year round August from Tuesday to Friday.
A bit late in replying but there are two forums betterbidding and biddingfortravel which lists hotels and recent successes including the name your own price option on priceline.
