Transfer some SPG points into Marriott and then transfer them back. It's that easy. And instantaneous.

My SPG points due to expire next month, got a year's extension. Obviously it keeps your Marriott points alive too.

Actually it doesn't keep your Marriott points alive. Joe briefly lost his Starpoints because his Marriott account was inactive and an SPG transfer doesn't count as activity.

Easier to book an award night and then cancel...

Possibly they have changed it. I only became aware that it might work when the expiry date for both loyalty programs in my AwardWallet account changed to three years for Marriott and one year for SPG when I did the points transfers.

Try it and see if your expiry date changes.

Award Wallet could be wrong I guess.

Yes that was rather annoying - hope they have fixed it!

Without transferring 1k pts via amex Mr, are there any other ways of getting few qualifying points into my spg account as due to expire in a few months time.
I only have 1k in spg and only 1k in marriot so cannot do a transfer.

No use for uber and a stay at present.

Hmmm, I'm not sure actually. I'd probably go for an Amex transfer personally, mostly on the basis that I just couldn't bear to see Starpoints die.

What about booking a stay and then cancelling? I read on Flyertalk this does work.

*edit* Ah, you only have 1k points so not enough.

*second edit* Buying 500 Starpoints for $17.50 would work.

Cheers, I'm only 700 pts off 3k marriott due to our fave twitter campaigns. I will continue with these 50 a day and should be able to meet my target by the end of my accounts year.
Let's hope for some more tweets, all gone quiet!

They do have long layoffs sometimes. If it gets too close to the date of your points expiration I would buy the 500 points. Little expense and no hassle of a stay required.

Cheers, if this does happen I will transfer min amount possible via my new Amex gold.

I was rolling along nicely with 50 per day then it seemed to stop working. Not sure what's going on there...

They can pull the promo at any time, but it always starts up again at a later date. Sometimes with the same hashtag, sometimes a new one. It will undoubtedly be back at some point.

The @MarriottRewards Twitter account has replied to tweets from people asking the same question. Response:

"All Social Media promotions for current Moments#MembersGetIt ended, for now"

I give it six weeks max before we're up and running again.

So I transferred 1k spg into my Marriott account today and then transferred it back. My AW now states my account does not expire until Sept 2018.
Where do you find this expiry information in your spg account. I take it AW pulled this new expiry date in from my spg account so is everything been resolved now?

Good question. I can't find it anywhere.

You should be fine though. Presumably your MR expiration date hasn't changed on AW, since neither SPG transfers nor social media freebies count as activity.

I'm thinking as AW pulled in new expiry date info from my spg account since transferring my Marriott points back over that it does work this trick and has extended my account by one year.
