British Airways Executive Club has extended its popular “double Tier Points” offer until 31st December 2023.

To qualify, you must:

  • Depart from the United Kingdom
  • Complete you travel before 31st December 2023
  • Book a holiday – Flight + Car or Flight + Hotel – of at least 5 nights in length

It is worth noting that you do NOT need to book the hotel or car for the duration of your “holiday”, merely five days.

Despite substantial problems with crediting the additional Tier Points from the current promotion, British Airways now promises that these will arrive with 14 days of your return.

What Are My Best Options?

If you are aiming to maximise your Tier Points earning, you will probably want to consider one of the British Airways destinations that gets you 80 Tier Points for each flight in Club Europe. Examples include:

  • Catania (Sicily)
  • Sofia
  • Bucharest
  • Greece
  • Canary Islands
  • Malta

By doubling the Tier Points, you can earn 320 Tier Points for a 5-day trip in Club Europe. You do NOT have to pick up your rental car if you don’t actually need it.

But I Need Lots Of Tier Points!

Then you will want to look west…  Even though the cheapest Tier Point runs do not usually depart from the United Kingdom, you can still earn double Tier Points when including American Airlines flights on your itinerary. (provided it is booked via British Airways)

For example, an Inverness – London – New York – Los Angeles – Honolulu trip in Business Class would earn you 40+140+140+140 = 490 TPs each way. Double that by adding a 5-night hotel stay or car rental and you’d pick up Gold status from a single trip.  (for added oomph, do it at the start of your TP collecting year)

Bottom line

There is no question that the airline business is changing. Business travel is down, and will likely remain that way. Travellers who choose premium cabins for their leisure travel are the ones keeping the likes of British Airways going, so it’s nice to see them rewarded with an extra bonus…

How does it work if one doesn’t pick up the rental car? I am assuming the payment for it is already included in the whole deal ?
    Thanks

Yes. You would have already prepaid for the car as part of the holiday package. Nobody will check to see whether you actually picked up the car. (of course if you can actually make good use of the car that is better – but I do not recommend picking up a rental car and just parking it somewhere for 5 days)

    A few questions:

    – Does the car rental location have to be the same as that of the flight? e.g. I can book a return to the East coast with a car booking in Athens. Would that count though?

    – Does the 5-night minimum apply to both the car/hotel and the flight element or are they additive? e.g. can you book 3 nights flights + 2 nights hotel or do they have to be 5 days each?

    – Do the elements need to be over the same days? e.g. can you have a flight for 3 nights followed by a car booked for 2 nights?

    Thanks!

I am almost certain that you cannot book a car rental in a different location to your flights. And you cannot make your trip 3 days long by doing both car and hotel.

The part about splitting the five nights across car and hotel is interesting, but I don’t think it can be done.
