I received a very interesting e-mail this morning from Iberia. Check your inboxes as well… Iberia is offering 9,000 bonus Avios for booking ANY flight on iberia.com. However, as usual, Iberia didn’t provide a full set of terms and conditions. But here’s what I can decipher.
- You must purchase a paid flight between 21 and 24 June, 2018
- Flights must be operated by Iberia, Iberia Express or Air Nostrum
- You can receive up to 90,000 bonus Avios in total
- One-ways appear to be allowed
- You must provide Iberia Plus account details when booking
- You must USE the 9,000 Avios before 1 December, 2018
There is a landing page for the promotion on Iberia.com, so the promotion might be open to all. Click here…
I wanted to get this post published quickly, but some quick hacks that come to mind are:
- You can book a return trip as two one-ways and earn 9,000 Avios each time
- You can book the cheapest Spanish domestic flights for 40-50 euros and simply no-show – the bonus Avios seem to arrive 10 days after PURCHASING the ticket, not actually flying
- You might be able to “Part Pay with Avios”, normally a poor deal, but in this case you might want to reduce the up-front cash cost of chasing some bonus Avios.
It’s entirely unclear whether “Combining Your Avios” to British Airways Executive Club would count as using Avios. Even if you empty out your Iberia Plus account, you might want it in the future – Iberia Plus has been known to immediately expire Avios that were transferred into an inactive account. So it’s probably wise to actually use your bonus Avios before December on an Iberia reward.
Don’t forget that you can earn £3.53 cashback from TopCashback for booking on iberia.com.
If it works as promised, this looks like an excessively lucrative promotion. I wonder what’s going on behind the scenes… What do you think?

Thank you! Looks good and I’m in Madrid September but they haven’t put a to be traveled by date so not sure…
Craig Sowerby says
I just booked a September flight myself to Madrid. £40 for a one-way LGW-MAD. Hopefully later I can switch to my BA details to get elite benefits…
Historically iberia.com promos only care about purchase date but this promo does seem too good to be true! Unfortunately the bonus Avios will only arrive after the promo ends so it’s a bit of a gamble to be sure. 🙁
Russell Wilson says
Ha ha – I was looking at that one to! Bargain if it all works out for people, alas I won’t be able to spend them all by December 1st. I’ve asked Iberia for clarification on the ‘use by’ and will update when I get an answer.
Great breaking news tip though Craig!
ICC says
Is it still possible to transfer points from Iberia to BA? I don’t get that option any longer, just from BA to Iberia (and a warning that it is not reversible).
Craig Sowerby says
Household Account I presume. You need to set up a Vueling Club or AerLingus account.
ICC says
Thank you kind sir! I thought the Avios.com trick had stopped working.
Russell Wilson says
Second point on the use’ thing do we know if a booking made before 1st December counts if not traveled? Really Iberia isn’t very good on the details 🙂
Craig Sowerby says
Good point. I can’t access my account right now to double-check, but I think IB award redemptions are dated for the travel date, not the date of booking. Maybe Iberia will account for this, maybe they won’t. Safest thing would definitely be flying the award before 1 December.

Think the website has crashed?
Managed to get two bookings in, toying with the idea of booking 10 flights for the full 90,000.
Craig Sowerby says
LOL. Not surprised… (even though I think InsideFlyer is the only blog publicising the promo so far)
If it works, and you know you can spend 90K Avios, this is well worth taking to the limit…
Tom says
My email has an additional term that the flight must be operated by Iberia, Iberia Express or Air Nostrum so beware of that before booking!
Craig Sowerby says
You’re right. I missed that first time around. Post updated. Cheers.
Good thing even 9,000 bonus Avios couldn’t get me to book a Vueling codeshare anymore. But I would have gotten around to booking a BA codeshare…
Scott says
Website down for me…..
Thanks for making aware. Going to try and give it a go for a couple of £15 domestics.

Do I understand this correctly –
You must book a ticket by the end of 24th June on an Iberia, Iberia Express or Nostrum flight ONLY to qualify for the 9000 avios. What is the date range for qualifying tickets? For example, if I book a flight for 1st September? Is there a cut off date? Or will all dates to December qualify? (not that we would book a flight for the date before the avios would be withdrawn, of course!)
Do the avios HAVE to be used on Iberia, Iberia Express or Nostrum? Can they be booked on a BA operated flight or does it have to be operated by one of those three?
Craig Sowerby says
The dates of travel don’t matter. You must book by tomorrow on Iberia, Iberia Express or Air Nostrum metal.
It seems that you can use the Avios on any reward booked via IB+. So if all Iberia award space is gone, you should be fine booking partners. Combine Your Avios won’t save your Avios, unless you intend to abandon IB+ for all time.

Has anyone received their miles yet? 10 days is today. I have nothing in my account yet.

Has anyone received their miles? 10 days is today. Nothing on my end. Let us know!
Joe Deeney says
Nothing for me yet – and I haven’t heard of anyone getting them yet. My best guess is that IF things work properly, they should credit sometime overnight. What will happen in practice remains to be seen 😉
