We’ve seen this offer before… and love it!! You’re going to need some Spanish language skills though – or a web browser that can translate for you. But you should be able to purchase some Avios at a decent price. The offer comes from the Spanish version of Groupon and the Avios are sent to an Iberia Plus account.
It is easy enough to sign up for a Spanish Groupon account – if not resident in Spain just choose your favourite hotel and use their address.
The price per Avios jumps around a bit:
- 2,000 Avios for 19 euros (0.95 euro cents apiece)
- 4,000 Avios for 59 euros (1.48 euro cents apiece)
- 8,000 Avios for 99 euros (1.24 euro cents apiece)
- 15,000 Avios for 189 euros (1.26 euro cents apiece)
- 20,000 Avios for 249 euros (1.25 euro cents apiece)
- 34,000 Avios for 429 euros (1.26 euro cents apiece)
You are allowed to buy 1 of the 2,000 Avios packs, 3 of the 34,000 Avios packs and 5 of the other packs. In theory, you could buy up to 200,000 Avios in total.
Here is the direct link for the Groupon offer, although you don’t want to use it…
You want to go to the Iberia website and set your country settings to Spain in the top left-hand corner. Then you want to visit the IberiaPluStore. (which works exactly like your usual cashback or airline shopping portals) There you will find Groupon as one of the options, offering 13 Avios per euro spent (at the time of writing). Once in Groupon, you need to set your city to Madrid and search for Avios. Confusing? Perhaps this isn’t a travel hack for your grandmother… but it’s still free extra Avios…
So… if you buy a 2,000 Avios pack, you will also earn 247 Avios extra via the IberiaPluStore. 2,247 Avios for 19 euros (£17.25) works out to 0.77p per Avios.
Paying with PayPal should also help avoid any issues with the registered address on your credit card.
The pound:euro exchange rate seems to be getting worse and worse. Nonetheless, the 2,000 Avios pack is still cheap enough to give it a go…

It’s 247 extra avios rather than 117.
13 avios per Eurospent x 19 euros.
Craig Sowerby says
LOL. Brain freeze this a.m. Managed to multiply by 9 instead of 19. Cheers.
Craig Sowerby says
And now Iberia emails me to say I will earn 248 extra Avios. 🙂
Andrew H says
Ditto 🙂
Dom says
Has getting the Avios through IberiaPluStore worked. The terms and conditions seem to exclude purchase of avios via groupon:
We do not offer the 2,000 , 4,000 , 8,000 , 12,000 or 20,000 Avios that you might buy through any “Avios en Iberia Plus” promotions.
We do not accept missing transaction claims or questions about the 2,000 , 4,000 , 8,000 , 12,000 or 20,000 Avios that you might buy through “Avios en Iberia Plus” promotions.
Andrew H says
I’ve been doing this for two or three years now and have never failed to get the bonus Avios via IberiaPluStore.
Craig Sowerby says
Same here… although when I bought in June I received an email from Iberia confirming my portal transaction, but have yet to see my Avios.
Will have to investigate what Dom says.
Andrew H says
I purchased a 2000 package on 5th June, got the 2000 into my account on 4th July and got the bonus 190 avios on 19th July.
Craig Sowerby says
Since I understand the original Spanish as well, I interpret this as Iberia Plus (and/or the IberiaPluStore) being fed up with people trying to chase their missing Avios, when they must contact Groupon to do so.
It really doesn’t appear to me at all to be excluding purchases of Avios from earning the 13 euros per euro – there are dozens of ways of stating that more clearly.
Alex says
As anyone tried buying 2,000 Avios for 19 euros on multiple Email accounts to the same Iberia account? And did it work?
RKP says
Even I want to know the same. At the redemption site, they ask to enter email address used to buy coupon and then iberia plus a/c. Wondering, if Iberia/Groupon system verify avios credit requests coming from different email ids into one avios account?
Wilco says
I get the following error message when I want to register my groupon code:
Tu non puoi ancora sottomettere i tuoi codici coupon!
Andrew H says
Wilco, it doesn’t usually work the first time. Keep doing it and it will work eventually.
Or do you mean a coupon code to get a discount?
Wilco says
Thanks Andrew, strange situation the first 3 groupons worked when redeeming them for Avios but the fourth I get the above error code, have tried today twice with a couple of hours in between. Will try to be patient and try in a couple of days.
Wilco says
Still not working, logged a call with Groupon, SLA is 5 working days. The gentleman I spoke to was nice and had no issues speaking English with me.
Andrew H says
I check the Flyertalk thread on this topic regularly and I remember other people getting the same error message (you can see them describe it here on pages 32 and 33) https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/iberia-airlines-iberia-plus/1731559-interesting-groupon-selling-avios-spain-32.html
Hopefully Groupon will sort it for you.
RKP says
I missed the link thru iberiaplustore. 🙁 before I bought the €19 coupon from groupon. Well. Is it possible to buy more coupons using other email ids and redeem them into one Iberia plus account? I am bit struggling to build up 150k avios for lon-tok-lon out on prem eco and in on bus. I have 120k avios at the moment.
kevin bell says
I have previously purchased 8000 & 20000 avois through groupon spain and redeemed the coupon without a problem, this time I have purchased 15000 and can’t seem to redeem the voucher. My Spanish is non existent, I am doing it all through google translate using the camera on my iPhone – I know, its long and tedious.
I have sent a query through their website but its in english, I am hoping i can get this resolved
Andrew H says
Kevin, some of us have had problems recently. I solved mine by trying another browser.
I was previously using Chrome but when I put the codes into the appropriate fields and clicked the button, it didn’t work. I tried IE (or it may have been Edge) and it worked straight away.
