What's the cheapest way to get from UK to NZ? Asking for a friend. She does not collect miles, so that's out (unless persuade her otherwise which is unlikely). It's going to be economy by the way. I know Norwegian can get her from Gatwick to Singapore for a very low price. What alternatives are there?
Good question - I've thought about doing a post on this sort of topic for a while. For straight cash, I would imagine that it would be hard to beat cheap Norwegian to Singapore as you say, then cheapest Low Cost Carrier to anywhere in Australia/NZ (probably Darwin or Perth), then persuade her good friend Litefoot to use some AA Miles or similar to NZ (or more LCC though I don't know how cheap Oz/NZ flights are tbh). Alternatively, always worth keeping an eye on the Qatar fares from Scandi and Italy (might be the easiest way).
Thank you. I don't know much about LCC from Singapore to Aus/NZ so I will do some research. Feel free to do that article! I guess the most relaxing way of doing it - but more expensive - would be to fly from LHR to LAX with Air New Zealand and then on to NZ. Only one change required - and it may be the same aircraft anyway.?
Any idea what the flight time is going that way? (I mean, any way of getting to NZ is going to take ages but that sounds like a long time on a plane!). Personally, I'd much rather take the time to have a couple of stops en route to at least have a proper walk and maybe a decent sleep somewhere half way; but ideally I'd build in a couple of 2-3 night breaks on the way to see some cool places at the same time as avoiding becoming a zombie. Obviously though a lot of people don't have the flexibility to add more time onto their trips and need to get from A to B as quickly as possible.
NZ0001 Air New Zealand London Auckland NZ0001 Carrier Air New Zealand Aircraft Boeing 777-300ER Distance 18383km Departs 3:30pm Terminal 2 Arrives 6:45am+2 Terminal I Flight duration 24h 15m Stop over 2h I doubt it would be cheap anyway!
To get to Aus, there's Jetstar and Tiger and Air Asia and Scoot. You could look at those then another ticket over the Tasman. That said, you can often get some very cheap UK to Aus / NZ through tickets, sometimes even cheaper than SIN-AUS tickets! Check newspapers, pop into STA Travel, check the ITA Matrix etc, there's often someone dumping some spare economy seats for not much more than the cost of the Jet-A1 fuel...
Yeah. I would have thought that we aren't the ones... More likely a specialist backpacker / student travel agency would know how to get to/from NZ cheaply.
http://www.secretflying.com/posts/london-uk-auckland-new-zealand-658-roundtrip/ - certainly not 'cheap' but might be worth looking at.
Depending on when she's going to travel, I've heard that Qatar will be offering some amazing sale offers through January on their new routes departing CWL (Cardiff)...
I currently use Hipmunk and Kayak to find the best and cheapest flights for my needs. They work pretty well as far as I can tell - but are all the flight search sites the same, or are some better than others? Very grateful for any tips.
They can vary a surprising amount, so I always recommend checking a broad range if you have time - start with google flights/ITA, then move to Kayak, Hipmunk, Momondo, Skyscanner etc - and it can be worth checking direct on an airline's site sometimes too if there is a promo on like the 50% Royal Jordanian sale because they don't tend to show up in the other results.
Very good tips - thank you. I should use Google Flights more. It's particularly useful for when there's a lot of flexibility in travel dates and want to find the cheapest travel dates. For planning business trips it's perhaps less useful. I hadn't thought to check airline sites directly for promos - thanks for that tip.
Hi, first post, some reasonable deals from Cardiff on Qatar (£691) - whenever that service starts. Prior to that, it can be a similar price from Scandinavia, even including the cost of positioning. Either way it's a long leg from Doha to Auckland - 16+ hours in economy - eek!
Hi Lincolnite - welcome to InsideFlyer! Thanks for the Cardiff fares - I completely agree though, 16 hours in Economy is a pretty daunting prospect! Even in Business/First, that's a long time to be on a plane.
