All the referrals to the Amex cards forget that they require some form of credit history. If one applies with a too low rating, it will lower the rating even more because an unsuccessful application is recorded. Moreover, many card require at least two or three years of being in the UK in their T&C!

So register for free with any credit reporting service offered by Noddle, MSE, Creditscore etc. and check your rating and likelihood of being accepted.

My suggestion would be the SPG Amex purely because when I signed up to it, I got a promotion on my account for two free night certificates for two stays at any Marriott hotel. I stayed at the Moxy in London excel for just £49pn twice and then received the two certificates promptly.

Just last year. I haven't heard anyone else being offered such a reward so I'm assuming it just be targeted only towards younger people like me. Currently they've given me an offer for 18,000 points after 3 stays.

    Very nice - 18k isn't a bad bonus either.
