Until Monday, March 1, 2021 you will receive a 50% bonus when purchasing Avios from Iberia Plus. The minimum purchase to be eligible for the bonus is just 2,000 Avios, so this promotion can come in handy even if you are just a few Avios short.
Iberia Avios with 50% bonus
You can buy up to 200,000 Avios during this promotion for ~£3,015 (€ 3,601). In addition, you will receive 100,000 Avios as a bonus, so after your purchase you will have 300,000 in total. The more Avios you buy at one time, the cheaper the points generally are. You get the best rate if you buy between 100,000 and 200,000 (pre bonus). You can purchase the Avios on this page .
Business Class to the United States for £445
Once travel returns, if you would like to fly Business Class transatlantic, you could book a flight between Madrid and Boston (or New York or Chicago) for as little as 34,000 Avios one way (off peak). There are also taxes/surcharges to consider – approximately £90 for a flight between Madrid and Boston.
So, you could get 34,000 Avios by buying 25,000 for ~£415 (€ 477). You will then receive a bonus of 12,500 and therefore you have 37,500 Avios. Add on the cost of the taxes/surcharges and the total amount is ~£505.
However, you can also book this for ~£445 (€ 512), but you would have to buy at least 100,000 Avios to get the cheaper pricing. You then pay the equivalent of 1.2 euro cents per Avios, meaning you would pay € 408 for the 34,000 points and then € 104 in taxes/surcharges on top. The total amount for your business class ticket from Spain to the United States would therefore be ~£445 (€ 512).
Transfer Avios between Iberia and British Airways
It is also possible to merge your Iberia (IB) Avios with British Airways Avios. This makes it possible to buy the points for IB now and then transfer them to British Airways . In this article you can read how to merge Avios. The number of Avios required and the fees charged for an award ticket differ between these two partners, so it can be worth well worth checking both before booking.
