With the joint venture it was always coming, but it seems that Virgin Atlantic is now an official Flying Blue partner – or at least will be from 15th January 2020, as you can see on the Flying Blue website here.

This means that Flying Blue members will be able to earn miles and XP on eligible flights with Virgin Atlantic, and use miles for Virgin flights (and vice versa for Virgin Flying Club members).

Earn miles and status points

Flying Blue members can earn miles and XP on flights marketed as Virgin Atlantic (VS) or Delta Air Lines (DL) and operated by Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM and Delta Air Lines, as per the earning scheme below:

These percentages apply if you have a VS or DL ticket. If you book a KL or AF codeshare, you will earn miles based on your ticket price and not the distance. You cannot earn miles on booking classes that are not listed in the image above. The number of XP depends on the zone, and is equal to the earning schedule for all Flying Blue partners.

As regards earning Virgin Flying Club Miles and Tier Points on Air France and KLM flights, here are the charts:

Flying Club earning rates on KLM flights

Flying Club earning rates on Air France flights

It looks like we are going to have to wait a bit longer to see what the respective redemption rates are like, but the opportunity to redeem Virgin Miles on short haul Air France/KLM flights is potentially interesting – we’ll be keeping a close eye on how things develop!

What about status benefits? I’ve not seen anything anywhere on that. Does anybody know? Will it be similar to Skyteam/Delta? I do hope so, that would be great!
