The 30% Discount When Buying Marriott Points is Back…

Marriott Bonvoy is back again with another promotion… selling points at a 30% discount. The offer is similar to the one that ran back in September and October, 2019.  This sale will run until 22 December, 2019. Marriott Bonvoy members will be allowed to buy a maximum of 100,000 points at a discount of 30% off the regular price. This works out to 0.875 US cents per point (0.7p per point).

I personally value Marriott points at 0.8 cents each – click here for details – although you will have to decide for yourself whether it makes sense to buy discounted Marriott points to exchange for award nights.

Unfortunately 100,000 points won’t get you particularly close to the number of points needed for a “pay four nights, get five” award stay at a truly top end hotel. But perhaps as a final top up or a one night stay it might make sense for you. For example, I find it quite easy to find one-night stays at the Marriott hotel near Madrid airport for 12,500 points ($110 / £86 when merely buying points) when the cash rates are 180-200+ euros per night…

And if you are intending to convert those newly-acquired Marriott points into airline miles… You would pay £420 for 60,000 points, which would get you 25,000 airline miles. (in the absence of any conversion bonuses). 1.68p per mile is expensive! Although perhaps worth considering if you need some truly “exotic” miles that aren’t ever sold to members… or a smallish top up of your Alaska Airlines / American Airlines / United mileage account.

If interested in this promotion, you can click here to reach the appropriate landing page, where you will need to enter your Marriott details to reach the “buy points” page…

I had been hoping to top up my account with a really crazy Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal, but that now looks unlikely. Are you a buyer at these prices?

I’m desperate enough for some Asiana miles to consider this. I’m not sure if I can bring myself to actually pay that price though. Like many others, I’m missing Starwood and their points sales at much better rates.

I bought some in last sale to top up my account for the now W Yas Island Hotel Abu Dhabi (hotel above the track). 5 nights over F1 race weekend for 100,000 points. Cash rates are about £1k per night! Awards nights were unavailable for most of the year but I set an alert on an external site to be notified when their ‘standard’ room was available and it then appeared as points for just a few days!! Can’t wait for next week! 😉
