When buying points from IHG Rewards Club, you usually pay the following rates:

• 1,000 – 10,000 points for $13.50 per 1,000 points
• 11,000 – 25,000 points for $12.50 per 1,000 points
• 26,000 – 60,000 points for $11.50 per 1,000 points

During this promotional period, you will receive a 100% bonus when you buy 5,000+ points.  Of course, you really should buy at least 26,000 points in order to pay the lowest price per point. With a 100% bonus, you will be able to buy 120,000 IHG points for $690 (approximately £510). This works out to 0.575 US cents per point. (roughly 0.425p)

Does it Make Sense?

Well… that depends… it isn’t particularly difficult to find hotels where you can save money by buying points during promotions such as these. But it’s also relatively easy to earn points through IHG promotions such as Accelerate so you may not particularly ever need to buy more.

As always, our advice is that this promotion comes along so frequently that there’s no need to speculatively buy points today, unless you have a redemption in mind and the numbers work in your favour.
