Half Price Train Tickets Between Leeds And London!

Continuing this week’s train theme, I was having a look at the Nectar app on my phone earlier this week and discovered a great deal for half price train tickets between Leeds and London.

The offer applies to all Virgin Trains East Coast Advance tickets between the two cities, including First Class.

Book by 23rd June, and the discount seems to apply for travel up until Thursday 25th August.

You need to use this link, then just enter an email address and the promotion code NECTAR50.  After that, search as normal and the discounted rates should come up automatically.

The link claims to be specific, but I’ve tested it on a quite a few bookings now and the only restriction is that you need to use a different email address for each booking – so it looks like you can book as many half price train tickets as you like!

Standard Class Singles start at just £7.25, which is an amazing price!

First Class Singles start at £19.75, which is a brilliant deal too – particularly on weekdays, when you get a proper meal and alcoholic drinks included. Certainly not a bad way to kick off a weekend trip after work on a Friday!

Child tickets (5-15) are half price as well, so 1 adult a 1 child can travel in Standard Class for as little as £10.90.

It isn’t possible to stack Railcard discounts on top unfortunately, but at these prices I don’t think we should get too worked up about that!

Any other routes?

I don’t know, but suspect there might be.

As I mentioned, I got the link from the Nectar app and Nectar obviously know where I live (Leeds…) so I’d be very interested to hear if any readers living near other stations on the East Coast Line (Inverness, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Durham, York, Wakefield, Doncaster, Peterborough etc) have similar offers for their local station.

Even if not, the savings are so substantial that it might be worth coming to Leeds from places like Manchester or York, before starting your trip to London.

It should also be possible to book a ticket to/from Leeds but actually get on/off at a station closer to London.

Head For Points recently posted about a promotion from Leeds Bradford Airport offering a free Heathrow Express ticket when flying between Leeds Bradford and Heathrow.

It’s a good offer (and one I was half considering myself), but half price train tickets makes taking the train almost always significantly cheaper, as well as quicker and more convenient than flying – even with a free HEX ticket.

PS – Don’t forget that you now get free Wifi on Virgin East Coast  trains now too, even in Standard Class!
