In May, I wrote about the fact that Tesco and Virgin Atlantic were not offering a conversion bonus this quarter, but were instead offering a prize draw. However the standard 1,000 mile incentive for Opting-in to an auto-conversion to Virgin miles was offered yet again.

During a recent update on Award Wallet of my account balances, I noticed an extra 1,000 miles in my Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account. I double-checked to confirm, and indeed my Tesco Clubcard Opt-in bonus has now posted, roughly a month after I switched my Tesco account settings.

Now, it makes no sense at all to actually have your Clubcard points automatically convert to Virgin Atlantic miles. I’m not aware of any advantage of auto-converting to Flying Club miles. But you might lose out if there is no bonus in a given quarter. And of course you must be “opted out” – if you will – of Virgin Atlantic miles in order to opt-in again for another 1,000 miles… 😉 Hacking the 1,000 mile bonus aside, there are also a number of reasonable uses of Clubcard vouchers that have nothing to do with miles; I highlighted a few recently when covering the changes to Clubcard reward options.

So, assuming that you also signed up for Auto Opt-In, it’s now time to check your Virgin account for those 1,000 miles, and to set your Clubcard settings back to vouchers…

Hopefully the next Clubcard voucher cycle will repeat the same offer. I’ve done this so many times I must have received close to 15,000 free Virgin Atlantic miles from Tesco by now… How about you? Did you receive your 1,000 miles?
