Reminder! Tesco Clubcard Changes Will Be Implemented on Monday

You might recall the complete mess Tesco made back in January, announcing some changes to Clubcard redemptions and almost immediately back-tracking due to public pressure. Well, those changes are due to be implemented on Monday, 10 June 2018.

However, should you be rushing to convert your Clubcard vouchers into something? Well, you certainly should do if you want to use one of these 57 soon-to-be-gone partners:

  • Hurtigruten
  • Condor Ferries
  • Verdant Leisure
  • Just Go! Holidays
  • Scottish YHA
  • Bridge the World
  • Select Hotels of Ireland
  • The Belmond Luxury Train Journeys
  • New Forest Hotels
  • My Taylor-Made Holiday
  • Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway

But since you are reading InsideFlyer UK, I imagine that none of those partners really ever interested you. You might have auto-convert set up for Avios, especially if you are grandfathered onto the £2.50 = 800 Avios rate. Or you might follow my regular advice and wait for conversion bonuses for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

But on Monday most Clubcard partners will offer 3x face value for Clubcard vouchers. So which ones will make the most sense?

1. Uber

For avid users of Uber in the United Kingdom, this reward option is a true 3x valuation. There is no cashback lost, no especially-inflated room rates, etc. You simply receive credit into your Uber account that you spend when using Uber in the United Kingdom.

2. RedSpottedHanky

There aren’t too many options for earning cashback or special discounts when buying train tickets. So, using your Clubcard vouchers for RedSpottedHanky credit is a true 3x valuation.

3. Hotels.com

Although you would receive a notional 3x valuation, your subsequent hotel stay won’t qualify for Hotels.com Rewards (where you get one night free for every ten paid –> a 10% rebate). You also won’t earn any cashback when booking hotels.com using Tesco vouchers.  As a result, you’d be receiving more like 2.5x value instead of a true 3x value…

Conclusion

There’s probably no reason to panic before Monday, but it might be worth one last look to see if one of the soon-to-disappear partners is a likely candidate for a family excursion this summer. Otherwise just hang on to your Clubcard vouchers and wait for the next conversion bonus…  😉
