Earn Miles & More in the UK – August update

Regular readers will remember my monthly posts on Lufthansa mileage bargains and on my favourite Miles & More redemptions. What I’d like to do in this post is highlight some of the current promotions that offer bonus Miles & More points, especially because these are hard to earn in the UK. Craig already pointed out that you currently get 500 Miles & More completely free for simply downloading and signing into the Miles & More app on your phone or tablet.

1. Up to 5000 bonus miles for a stay booked through Miles & More Hotels

I have written before about the Miles & More Hotels portal. This essentially works like Rocketmiles or Kaligo. Just that here you earn a certain number of Miles & More points for your stay. Miles & More are running yet another promotion. If you book a hotel through the portal by 31 August you will earn:

  • 1000 bonus miles for a stay costing between 100 and 249 EUR
  • 5000 bonus miles for a stay costing more than 250 EUR

You can stay whenever you like, but you must be a first time user of the Miles & More Hotels portal to bag the bonus. The bonus comes in addition to the regular miles you’d earn for the stay. Whilst not as generous as the previous promotions, if you value Miles & More points at 1 eurocent each you are looking at a 50 EUR return. Note that these are third-party bookings, so you will not earn additional points in the hotel’s own loyalty scheme, and remember that you will be billed in EUR at the time of booking, so use an appropriate card to avoid FX fees.

2. 50% bonus on Heathrow Rewards points conversions into Miles & More

If you convert your Heathrow Rewards points into Miles & More between now and 31 August, you will earn a 50% conversion bonus. Remember that Miles & More is not an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner, so if you are only missing a few miles for your next redemption, the Heathrow Rewards bonus might come in handy. Again the bonus is not as generous as the one we saw early this year—I believe there was a 100% transfer bonus around Christmas—but it is still better than converting at the standard rate of 1:1. Find more details on the promotion page here.

3. Earn 5 Miles per 1 EUR spent on gift cards

This one is only really interesting for those of you travelling to Germany regularly and, depending on your school German, it might require a bit of fiddling with Google Translate as it is only available on the German website of Miles & More. Until 31 August, you will receive 5 Miles & More points per euro spent through the Cadooz gift card portal. This can then be redeemed online and in-store at 60+ retailers.

If you travel to Germany fairly regularly, it can be a nice way to boost your Miles & More stash on everyday items at Rossmann (supermarket). City break coming up? Book your concert and musical tickets through Eventim, treat yourself to a new outfit at Eckerle or your significant other to new shoes at Görtz or jewellery from Christ and Swarovski. Access the promotion page here.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for ways to top up your Miles & More account to bag that redemption you’ve had in mind, these promotions could work out nicely. It’s a shame the Miles & More Hotels bonus is for new customers only, but those that haven’t yet taken advantage of it, should do so now.

  1. Anne says

This is timely as I am just looking into this. It is really tough in the Uk to earn tons of points as the credit card sign up is so meagre compared to the likes of British Airways AMEX and Gold AMEX. The only consolation is that holding the card means the points don’t expire so it doesn’t matter if it takes a while to acccumulate enough points for a redemption.
