      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I know that Joe did some interesting posts on United MileagePlus that appeal to my travel hacking instincts...  But I&#039;ve never really bothered with UA, mostly because of the crushing devaluations of 4-5 years ago and the fact that I&#039;ve had better programmes occupying my mind.<br />
<br />
But now I find myself rather light on Star Alliance miles, even though I have lots of Alaska / AA / Avios, etc.  And of course I&#039;m tempted by one last Marriott Travel Package. But since I have more than enough AS miles...<br />

Of course United has handled things poorly throughout. But the culture of security around aviation means that staff usually win the &quot;he said, she said&quot; argument when common sense would disagree. <br />

But something strikes me as a bit off that somebody could refuse to follow instructions on an airplane, be dragged off the airplane (overkill, but if the other passengers saw somebody get away with a firm refusal to deplane, then nobody else would...<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[So, the missus has exactly 15K American Airlines miles, with it being quite unlikely that she&#039;ll earn more, or at least enough for an attractive reward of some kind. (she has grown accustomed to flying in J with my miles!) There&#039;s currently yet another AA promo for sharing and buying miles so I could move those into my account for $150. Now conventional wisdom says that this would be quite stupid - no extra miles are generated - and so I should try to spend them out of her account.<br />
