Our good friend Goffe over at InsideFlyer Netherlands recently managed to snag a bargain award redemption. By taking advantage of a KLM/Air France Flying Blue ‘flash sale’, he was able to book Business Class flights to Vietnam for just 55,000 miles (+~£360 tax/fees) each way.

This is a quick explanation from him about the process – and the importance of keeping your eyes open to benefit from the best deals.

Naturally everyone wants the best out of their hard-earned points and miles. For years I played this game and enjoyed being able to discover fantastic new places travelling in luxury for relatively few miles. Then bang, the pandemic hit! Where had all the great deals gone? Now two years on, they are beginning to return. Flying Blue launched a flash sale allowing you to fly to Hanoi in Business Class with Vietnam Airlines for just 55,000 Flying Blue Miles each way!

Sadly, the flash sale has now ended but I want to show you how I used my miles so effectively, as hopefully Flying Blue may well come up with another flash sale…

Business Class to Vietnam for 55,000 miles

One way tickets were priced at 15,000 miles (Economy) and 55,000 miles (Business). This is a great deal as Business Class tickets from Europe to Asia normally cost a minimum of 100,000 miles one way.

This deal was available for flights with Vietnam Airlines, flying from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The flash sale offered dates in the winter months. I booked a return for December using 110,000 miles and also paid  €427 in fees (£360). Unlike Flying Blue’s regular ‘Promo Rewards’, the rules for changing or cancelling these tickets are flexible – very handy if travel restrictions occur again!
