Marriott Bonvoy has decided to extend its current promotion (due to end this weekend) until 10 November, 2020. As a reminder, here is what the promo looks like:

  1. 2,500 bonus points per STAY
  2. A one-time 5,000 bonus points after your THIRD STAY

You must register in order to receive your bonus points. Previously-booked stays WILL qualify (so no need to cancel and re-book)

Hopefully you are familiar by now with what constitutes a “stay”. A “stay” is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/checkout activity on any points-eligible rate (“Qualifying Rate”).

In simple terms, a paid stay booked directly with Marriott will qualify. Award stays, or stays booked via an Online Travel Agency, will NOT.

The Bottom Line

I reckon that 2,500 bonus points is worth approximately £13.50 – 15.00. When compared to Hyatt’s triple point promotion (+rollover of elite night credits) – click here for details – and Hilton’s offer of double points with double elite night credits (also roller over to 2021) – click here for details – this promotion is undeniably weak, especially for those members who enjoy long, expensive stays.

I do recognise that Marriott gifted members with elite night credits earlier in the year – 25 nights for Platinum members and 37 nights for Titanium members – and that offering rollover nights might be unduly generous…  but this promotion truly only works for one night stays here and there…

It’s weak but I’m only 5 nights shorts of Titanium so I’ll make use of it while it lasts. I’ll also use Hilton’s Double Rewards to secure Diamond – another 10 nights needed.

I would probably have just done a 5th night free award stay at the off-peak pricing rather than 5 one-nighters…

I’m also a few nights short of 50. I don’t trust Marriott to count the complimentary status extension year for lifetime purposes so I’ll just squeeze in the nights before we all end up locked down again. 🙁
