Hilton Honors has provided details of its final chain-wide promotion for 2020. It will run between 8 September and 31 December, 2020 and is called Double Rewards.

The promotion has two elements:

  • Double base points
  • Double elite night credits

Registration is required. You can register by clicking here.

Double Base Points

Hilton Honors frequently offers promotions of this type. Since you earn 10 base points per US dollar spent normally, this promotion will double that to 20 points per US dollar spent. (status bonuses, etc. are never included in promotions)

In order to earn double points, you must CHECK OUT between 8 September and 31 December, 2020.  Those stays that overlap New Year’s Eve will not earn double points.

Based on my valuation of a Hilton Honors point, that works out to an additional rebate of 4-5%. Fine, but not great…

Double Elite Night Credits

The more interesting part of this promotion is the double elite night credits. In order to reach elite status via the “nights” method, you normally require:

  • 40 nights for Gold
  • 60 nights for Diamond

Thanks to this promotion, and even if you have no elite nights so far in 2020, you can reach Gold status with 20 nights or Diamond status with 30 nights.

In addition, Hilton Honors announced recently that ALL elite nights earned in 2020 will rollover to 2021. So… if you stay 30 nights at a Hilton Honors hotel during the final 4 months of the year you will:

  • Hit the 60-night target for Diamond qualification
  • All 60 nights will be rolled over to 2021, meaning that you will already have enough nights to renew your Diamond status for 2022

Even more good news…  these double elite night credits will count for the milestone bonuses offered by Hilton Honors.

Status Match

The double elite night credit element also applies to any fast tracks you might be pursuing. The most obvious of these is the “status match”. Click here for details.

Since 18 nights (out of 90) is usually required for Diamond status, you should be able to achieve this with a mere 9 nights!

However, Hilton Honors have changed the status match requirements slightly. Now…

  • You cannot apply if you are already Gold or Diamond
  • Award nights do not qualify

It is also worth noting that a status match to Diamond, completed during 2020, will only earn you elite status until 31 March, 2022.

It MIGHT be possible to time your challenge so that you complete 16 nights during 2020 (with double nights), leaving 2 nights for early 2021. By completing your challenge in 2021, your upgraded status might be valid until March 2023.  YMMV as we say…

The Bottom Line

Hilton Honors is definitely taking an imaginative approach to incentivising hotel stays during 2020. Whilst Marriott, IHG and Hyatt do little – with our elite status already guaranteed for 2021 – Hilton is giving us a reason to stay in 2020.

What do you think of this promotion? Intriguing? Or just another boring double points promotion? Let us know in the comments section.

Thanks for this. But just to confirm, being a gold already is irrelevant to this specific promotion? I’d still need to stay the full 30 nights as if I had no status at all?

      Everybody gets it.

You of course could be Gold with 30 nights so far in 2020, meaning you only need 15 more for Diamond = 15×2 = 30. Or you could be Diamond already, but without any nights in 2020, leaving you 30(x2) short of renewing Diamond.
