GodSaveThePoints has highlighted some genuinely superb Lufthansa/SWISS Business and First Class fares from Stockholm to Asia.

New Swiss Business Class

Note that these are ‘companion fares’ – so to find the cheapest options you have to book for two passengers. Availability looks pretty good for most flights through to the end of September, though your stay does have to include a Saturday night.

Generally speaking, the best deals I could find were through Momondo, but you should be able to find similar pricing direct if you would rather book with the airline.

The deals

Stockholm – Hong Kong, Business Class: £1044 per person

Stockholm – Dubai, SWISS FIRST CLASS: £1420 per person

Stockholm – Shanghai, Lufthansa/SWISS FIRST CLASS: from £1580 per person

I am sure there are plenty more luxury bargains available for other destinations too, so if you have got somewhere specific in mind, now is a great time to look!

What miles can I earn?

SWISS and Lufthansa are both part of Star Alliance, so you’ve got a lot of options to choose from in terms of crediting the miles.

The SWISS Business Class flights look to be fare code P, which, for example, earns 125% of flown miles when you credit to Singapore KrisFlyer. Return flights to Hong Kong would therefore earn about 16,750 miles for each passenger.

The SWISS First Class flights book under fare code A, which offers as much as 300% of flown miles if you credit to programmes like Miles & More, or Aegean ‘Miles+Bonus’. Return flights to Shanghai would earn roughly 39,000 miles for each passenger!

Bottom line

Using points/miles to fly Lufthansa or SWISS First Class is usually extremely difficult and expensive – which arguably makes these cash fares even better value.

The flights to Shanghai in particular offer sensational value, if you’re in the market for an ultra-lux present for your partner and yourself this Christmas…

Does Krisflyer (or any FF for that matter) allow redeeming miles for tickets for kids only that can be attached to another adult ticket (paid by cash)?
Would like to use this sale to book for wife and I, but use miles for our kid.
No point booking J fare for the kid whose miles won’t then be of much use.

It’s pretty straightforward to issue reward tickets in anybody’s name. Whether it can be “attached” to a separate PNR in a way that would keep the parents happy is another matter. Seat selection wouldn’t really be an issue, but IRROPs / over-booking could be a concern.

I believe some airlines don’t issue a ticket for a minor traveling alone. It wouldn’t be a problem if both cash ticket and rewards tickets are booked with same airline. But what if cash ticket was used to buy tickets on Swiss direct but redemption on Swiss using Krisflyer?

I don’t recall ever having to provide a birth date when booking reward flights for others. It’s info that is added later… You could easily book as an adult and presumably sort it out later with Swiss. The ffp used wouldn’t really matter.
