If you’ve ever had a few hours to spare on a business trip, or simply didn’t fancy figuring out public transportation, you might have found yourself on a red Hop-On, Hop-Off bus from City Sightseeing. As the name suggests, the bus will take a circular route to the major tourist attractions in a given city. You are free to stay aboard for the entire circuit, or to disembark at the stops that interest you… once you’re done, you simply catch the next bus that comes along.

In certain cities, such as Cape Town, this service also allows you to visit places that otherwise would require a rental car.

However, this convenience doesn’t come cheaply – you will definitely pay substantially more than a day pass on public transportation would cost. So when an email popped into my inbox I was intrigued…

Although the fine print suggests that you might need to show your Miles & Smiles card when picking up your bus ticket, I doubt that this will be rigourously enforced.
