Radisson Rewards has just launched an interesting looking promotion, offering a 30% rebate if you transfer points to one of the 35 airline programmes it partners with.

The terms are pretty straightforward:

• Promotion is valid until 26th May 2019
• The name on your Radisson Rewards account must be identical to the name on your airline program account.
• The points will be subtracted from your account at the time of request and it may take 4-6 weeks for the miles to post to your airline account.
• Radisson Rewards members may redeem a minimum of 2,000 Radisson Rewards points for airline miles/points.
• The rebate will be credited as Bonus points to the member’s account after the eligible redemption transaction is completed and will be posted to a member’s account usually within 1-3 weeks after redemption transaction has completed

Is this a good deal?

The normal transfer rate is 10 Radisson Rewards Points to 1 airline mile and you can make transfers in the following ‘blocks’:

Given that 70,000 Radisson Rewards Points can get you a free night at a 5* star hotel in an expensive city like London, transferring to airline miles is usually best avoided.

Getting 30% of your points back means that your effective transfer rate would be 7 points to 1 airline mile, which is better but still far from compelling:

• 1,400 RR Points = 200 airline miles
• 35,000 RR Points =  5,000 airline miles
• 70,000 RR Points = 10,000 airline miles

If you have a significant Radisson Rewards balance (eg. 70,000), the question is whether you would rather have a free night at any Radisson hotel (worth £200-£250), or 10,000 airline miles (worth £100-180). For most readers the answer is definitely to stick with redeeming for a hotel stay, but if you happen to collect high-value ‘exotic’ miles with programmes like JAL Mileage Bank or Asiana Club, transferring may be worth having a think about. The offer is perhaps more interesting to people who have a relatively small amount of Radisson Rewards Points and are just looking to get some value from their points; or maybe to top off an airline account that has nearly enough miles to book a flight already. That said, even small amounts of Radisson Points can result in big savings on hotels.

Bottom line

A 30% rebate is obviously better than nothing if you were planning a transfer anyway, but it’s nowhere near enough to tempt me personally.

By participating in the Promotion, you acknowledge and agree to these Terms and Conditions. Any requests for changes, reissuance or re-credit of points after submitting the request are not allowed. Airline miles are non-refundable.
