Following on from the excellent Qatar sale fares I wrote about recently, there are also some very good fares for Business Class to the Maldives available from Frankfurt, starting at £1,186 Return.

Availability appears to be wide open at that sort of price for dates from the end of August all the way through to mid March 2018.

I would recommend using Kayak when searching for this one, as ITA Matrix seemed to be having some issues and Google Flights wasn’t finding the very cheapest fares when I checked.

Note that these flights are actually partly on Qatar and partly on Sri Lankan, which means it’s definitely not the most efficient way of getting to the Maldives – particularly when you factor getting to Frankfurt too.

The good news is that you can turn that negative into a positive by combining a stopover in Sri Lanka (which has some truly incredible scenery!) en route. Check out the details on German blog YHBU, which you can read very easily with the aid of Google translate.

Avios and Tier Points

Another benefit of the additional stop in Colombo is that, if you credit the flights to British Airways Executive Club, you’ll end up with 40 Tier Points more each way than you otherwise would – which means you will receive 640 Tier Points in total!

You only need 600 for BA Silver status (although you will need 4 segments on BA flights in the same status year too to qualify) .

The 13,946 Avios you would also earn aren’t to be sniffed at either!

Bottom line

If you fancy Business Class to the Maldives and like the idea bit of an adventure seeing other places on the way, this could be a great deal.

Some people have very restricted holiday time of course and really just want/need to get to their destination as quickly as possible, but I actually enjoy taking a slightly more meandering route when I can. I’m not sure many people would take a specific trip to visit Doha for example, but would certainly be interested in spending a day there for a quick look on the way to somewhere else.

Great point – probably one more for the status runners than the honeymooners in that case!
