Hilton Honors have announced details of their latest promotion. It will run from 1 May until 31 August, 2017.

Like many Hilton Honors promotions, it is quite simple and every Honors hotel appears to be participating.
- Diamond members will earn triple base points
- Other members will earn double base points
All Hilton Honors members earn 10 base points per dollar spent on hotel stays. So, if you are a Diamond member, you will earn 30 base points per dollar, whilst the rest of us will earn 20 base points.
On top of that, you can choose between Points & Points and Points & Miles. However the extra 5 points you would get from Points & Points is never doubled or tripled. So in many cases it makes sense to choose Points & Miles and chase an airline-specific promotion such as quadruple Avios (although we have yet to see details of any airline / Honors promotion for the summer).
This is the first time I have seen an additional promotional bonus based on status. If you are interested in Diamond status, it might be time to go for a Diamond challenge, which you can read about here. Since you are immediately upgraded to Diamond status for 90 days, you should also receive the triple points from this promotion. However, I recommend only applying for a Diamond challenge if you intend to complete the 8 stays required; this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not worth wasting for a few extra points that you can buy cheaply…

What happens if you have a stay that spans the end date? Does you get the promotion only for the days of the stay which are within the promotion period?
From the T&Cs… ” Registered Hilton Honors members will only receive Bonus Points for nights completed during the Promotion Period, regardless of a check-in date before the Promotion Period begins or a check-out date after the Promotion Period ends.”
I suspect that some people might get lucky, though, and earn the full bonus points as long as part of their stay falls into the promotion period. But you should definitely just count on receiving double/triple on those nights that fall within the promo period.
Do Hilton still offer status match (e.g. MR/SPG Plat to Diamond)?
I’m set to achieve MR Plat at the end of July so it would be nice to get HH Diamond alongside the newly minted Plat status.
Yes, the Hilton Honors status match is still running. Once in a lifetime, though, so it might be worth waiting to see whether a combined MR/SPG is going to work for you.
That’s a lot of hotel nights if you’re going for MR Platinum instead of the SPG route. My congratulations / sympathies 🙂
Actually, I’m doing a status challenge from MR Gold to Platinum. This takes 9 nights in 3 months. To do the same for SPG would take 18 nights so I remembered that the accounts were linked and decided to do the MR challenge as a shortcut 🙂
Not a huge benefit in going from MR Gold to Plat but once I’m there I’ll also claim SPG Plat, which is worth a great deal in comparison to SPG Gold!
Good point though about the timing. Once I get Platinum in SPG/MR I’ll need time to road-test and it would make more sense to try the match around the start of 2019.
