Until 3rd May 2017, Hilton Honors is offering a 100% Hilton Points bonus when purchasing 5,000+ Points.

My account allows me to buy up to 80,000 Points (+ 80,000 bonus Points) per year, but others seem to have a higher maximum.

Hilton Honors offers a variation on this deal quite frequently, so unless you need the Points soon, I wouldn’t be in a rush.

The 100% bonus means that you would effectively be buying Hilton Points at a rate of ~0.4p (0.5 cents) per Point, which is pretty much spot on what I value them at, making speculative purchases unattractive. With a specific redemption in mind though, you can still get good value here. Examples include:

• Category 1 and Category 2 stays for ~£20 and ~£40 per night
• A few very expensive high Category hotels, like the Conrad Maldives
• Properties that charge expensive resort fees on cash bookings

It’s also worth bearing in mind that Points bookings are flexible and that there isn’t any additional tax to pay, so you need to compare like with like when calculating whether buying and redeeming Points is better value than paying cash (also factor in the Points you would earn from a cash stay though). Silver, Gold and Diamond members receive the 5th night free when using Points, which can also impact the value you get.

Bottom line

As ever, whether the Hilton Points bonus is worth taking advantage of depends entirely on your circumstances. It’s about as good an offer as we ever see from Hilton, but it pops up regularly and is available this time until 3rd May, so there’s no rush.
