Hotel booking site Rocketmiles has a very good promotion for new members, offering 5,000 bonus miles (with a wide variety of airline programmes) for a first booking.

1-night stays are absolutely fine, although many of the very cheapest hotels are not eligible for the offer.

Good deal?

If you need to book a short stay somewhere and the Rocketmiles price is competitive, definitely.

Depending on how highly you value different types of airline miles, there is even the possibility of effectively making a ‘profit’ (or at least making your stay effectively free).

For example, I value Alaska Mileage Plan Miles at about 1.5p each, so if I paid £87 for a night at The Colonnade Hotel in London and earned 6,000 Alaska Miles (worth ~£90), the hotel stay would be more or less free once you factor in the miles earned:

Further afield you can do even better. Hotels in good-value destinations like Bali can be booked for as little as £56, with the full miles bonus:

To be clear, you would be getting ~£90 worth of miles and a night at the hotel for £56 in total!

According to the terms, the offer is available until the end of the year. You can choose from dozens of different airline programmes, including British Airways Executive Club, American AAdvantage, Alaska Mileage Plan, etc.

Bottom line

This is a strong offer from Rocketmiles and is worth checking out if you need to book a hotel.

Rocketmiles’ rates are often higher than other booking sites, but for a cheap/short stay it’s very likely that the bonus miles would more than outweigh the difference (but always do a quick comparison!).
