It might seem irrelevant at this stage, with travel grinding to a halt, but Hilton Honors has decided to extend its “Points Unlimited” promotion until 31 May, 2020.

The promotion is pretty simple. Members will earn 2,000 bonus points per stay, with an additional bonus of 10,000 points after every 10 nights. There is no limit to the number of times you can earn the 2,000 bonus points. However you will have to change hotels every night if you wish to generate additional “stays”.

Traditionally, award stays have also qualified for these bonus point promotions.

Our Take…

Extending this promotion doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. At this stage, it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll be back to regular travel in May. But I suppose Hilton are intending to allow members a bit longer to manage the required 10/20/30 nights for the 10,000 point bonus.

And going forward… hotel chains will need to come up with MUCH BETTER PROMOTIONS, if they want to win back business. Yes there will be some pent up demand for a holiday, but there will also be many businesses and consumers who decide that many trips are simply unnecessary or unwise. Perhaps this extension is a way of buying time before launching a truly lucrative promotion…
