I was planning on publishing a list of the best Marriott Bonvoy redemption sweet spots next week, but the category changes announced a few days ago have forced me to bring the article forward. Booking many of the hotels below will require more points from 4th March 2020, but right now you can still lock in some tremendous value redemptions…
As a reminder, here is the current Marriott Bonvoy award chart – note the Off Peak / Standard / Peak pricing:
When selecting the hotels listed below, I’ve tried to focus more on genuinely useful redemption options, rather than simply listing the highest theoretical value per point options. As a general rule of thumb though, I personally look to get at least 0.5p of value per Marriott Point.
UK Marriott Bonvoy Sweet Spots
University Arms Hotel, Cambridge, Category 4
Cambridge can be expensive, so being able to book a centrally located and well rated ’boutique’ hotel from just 20,000 points is an excellent option.
Marriott Courtyard Oxford City Centre, Category 2
Continuing the University theme, it’s possible to stay in the centre of Oxford for as little as 10,000 points (off peak) per night, which is an absolute steal!
Aloft Liverpool, Category 3
I stayed at the Aloft Liverpool before the SPG/Marriott merger and would happily stay there again. The introduction of peak/off peak award pricing has taken some of the shine off redeeming points, but it’s still often a solid option as a Category 3.
The Langley (near Heathrow Airport), Category 5
The Langley is one of the best uses of Marriott Points in the UK right now. As a Category 5 property, you can have a night of luxury before or after flying to/from Heathrow from just 30,000 points off-peak. Naturally, it will soon be going up to Category 6.
Moxy Aberdeen Airport (moving down to Category 1).
In a rare case of a hotel actually requiring fewer points in future, The Moxy Aberdeen Airport is moving down to Category 1. Yes, cash rates are almost always cheap anyway, but surely you can’t go wrong if you spot a night for 5,000 Points?
I’ll be sharing more Marriott Bonvoy redemption sweet spots – for Europe and the rest of the world – over the next few days. What are your favourites?
