First of all Happy New Year. However, with apologies to those that go big on Epiphany, I am afraid the festivities are done and the trudge through to late April now begins.

With that in mind, it’s probably time to book a bleak midwinter getaway, and there’s no better time to do that than now, via the current Hilton Winter Sale, which runs until the end of this month (for stays up to 29 May, 2019).

The Winter Sale applies to the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. As a result, there is a genuinely vast range of hotels included in this Winter Sale – including key “winter holiday” locations like the skiing areas of Europe, Middle Eastern winter favourites Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and African gems including Egypt, Morocco and Kenya.

The bargains identified

We’ve also made life a little easier for you. Given the sheer volume of hotels included in the sale, I had a sift through to highlight what I consider to be the “standout bargains”.

Here are my climate/activity based highlights from that:

• Winter sun: Hilton Dubai Creek at £79 a night
• Winter sun resort: Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort at £57 a night
• Ski: Hilton Garden Inn Krakow at £53 a night (for the great value slopes of Zakopane)
• City: Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya at £56 a night
• January sales: DoubleTree London Greenwich at £93 a night

Finally, for sheer excellent value I don’t really see how you can beat the Hilton Garden Inn Istanbul Golden Horn Turkey at £39 a night
