I’m currently running a weekly competition where readers can win prizes (including the chance to win a Grand Prize of 2,000 Norwegian CashPoints worth ~£185) just for sharing tips on the InsideFlyer forum about destinations I’ll be visiting soon!
Week One was all about Madrid, Week Two focused on Shanghai, Week Three looked at how to spend 24 hours in Hong Kong, and Week Four covered spending a week in Singapore – the advice offered really has been brilliant so far, so many thanks to everyone who has contributed!
I’ll be picking a winning entry from Week 4 later tonight (so you’ve still got a chance to enter if you haven’t already!), but won’t announce any winners until the end of the competition, so as not to discourage anyone from sharing tips about other destinations too (you can only win one week 😉 ).
All of which brings me to this week’s destination: Kuala Lumpur.
I’ll be in Kuala Lumpur for about 48 hours, arriving on a Friday night and leaving Sunday evening.
All tips are very welcome – but particularly things like:
- Recommendations on what to see/do/eat/drink
- Thoughts on the best hotels (particularly sweet spots using points) – is the Hilton worth the extra cost compared to the DoubleTree?
- Tips on how to get around
- Best airport lounges and other airport info – is it better to jump in a taxi or get the train to get to/from the airport?
- Best ways to fly there using points/miles
- Amusing/interesting stories about the destination/travelling there
Win Prizes
At the end of each week, I will pick my favourite comment from the forum thread (most useful, funniest, etc) and the author of that comment will win a small prize!*
More excitingly, the winner from each week will also be entered into the Grand Prize Draw, where one of them will be randomly selected to win 2,000 Norwegian Reward Cashpoints (worth ~£185 off any Norwegian flight).
The destination for Week Five is Kuala Lumpur- head over to the forum page now to help me, share your knowledge, and be in with a chance to win!
*Limited Edition InsideFlyer bag tags most likely, but possibly something else depending on what I can get my hands on.

The Doubletree is one of the best, if not THE best, hotels in the world for price (using points) versus value. Very nice hotel…
Nowhere else in KL compares, even though the Grand Hyatt is an amazing hotel as well.

Here at the moment on points. I’m Gold…Didn’t get a room upgrade due to space but did get lounge access, which Had a great 2 hours of cocktails. Did one night at the Hilton Garden Inn on cash, which made money back through the Miles and More 2,500 promo 🙂

🙂 If I’d known I would have tried for a mattress run at the HGI with you checking in as “second guest”…
Simon says
Would that work with them requiring passports at check in, ie. they’d want to see yours too?
Craig Sowerby says
Quite possibly, but as a £20 punt it might have been worth it…

Very nice Simon!

In KUL, but at Intercontinental later next month

We haven’t stayed at the Doubletree but loved the Hilton. Request a park view on a high floor and you may end up sat in the window gazing outside for long periods of the morning and night!

The Sentral area is quite good for 1 or 2 night stopovers, since you’re right at the train station for the airport and the hop-on, hop-off tourist bus also stops there.
